Glo Pillow Alarm Wakes You Up Slowly

Let's face it; no one will ever love his or her alarm clock. Even the spiffy Clocky alarm, which can be programmed to jump off of your nightstand and wheel around your room looking for a place to hide won't keep you entertained for long. After all, it's waking you up from sweet slumber. Eoin McNally & Ian Walton's glo pillow aims to solve this problem by creating a more natural way of being woken than the alarm clock.

The glo pillow uses an integrated fabric interface for setting the alarm. The time is displayed on the surface of the pillow using an LED grid inside the pillow. The user goes to sleep and passes through the five sleep stages to REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Forty-five minutes before the alarm is due to activate, the pillow begins to glow. read more

Apparently, using light rather than sound to wake encourages the body to establish a healthy sleep rhythm, and makes the day more productive and stress free. The pillow is charged by induction, which allows the pillow to be wireless and move freely about the bed.

Interesting concept. I'm really intrigued by this! I have 3 alarm clocks and 5 alarms on my cell phone just to get me to work on time.

My boyfriend was just whining about how much he hates the sound of his alarm this morning, I'm sure this would make the perfect gift! Although I'm sure it is pricey. Sad

I want one. Waking up by light is so so so much better. I sleep with the mini-blinds shut, but the fabric curtains open in my apartment, so the room fills with light and it makes waking up so much easier in the summer. Unfortunately, I'm moving in with my fiance soon, and he likes things to be pitch black around him, so maybe this pillow would be a good compromise instead of living the curtains open.

I saw this in a magazine and the people they interviewed all said that it was a very easy and relaxing way to wake up.

I'd love to give it a try.

I absolutely depise alarm clock sounds after a short period of using them, even the soothing sounding ones. I would LOVE this pillow, hopefully this one won't be too expensive, or maybe someone will make a more affordable one soon after they release it. Until then, my aunt gave me some advice that I have a hard time sticking too (but may be useful for the more disciplined people!): When you wake up in the morning (assuming the sun is coming up soon or is out already) go outside for a few minutes. This is essentially the same principle as the pillow, by working with your circadian rythym, just a little more work. Eventually your body will be used to it and will set its own internal alarm clock.

Sounds good to me. I'm a light sleeper, so anything that doesn't make noise is good in my book. That Clocky is hilarious. I'd hate to use it, but what a funny idea.

This wouldn't work for me, either. I actually prefer sleeping in a room with some light because I hate the dark.

It sounds like a good idea, but I'm afraid that I will sleep through the light... Then it kinda defeats the purpose

while it lights up, I'd slowly get used to the light and adjust sleeping to it, I'd sleep next to a train, why won't I be able to sleep on brightening pillow, huh? heh

Love it! I somehow doubt light could wake me up though. We would all get up when the sun came up if that was the case, wouldn't we?
