Geek Tip: How To Avoid Blinking In Photos

Here's a little geek tip which may come in handy when you're trying to round-up friends or family for a group picture. It never ceases to amaze me that whenever you try to get a good picture during the evening, one person will always close their eyes (and yes, I'm guilty as well). Kiss your blinking days good-bye as maleKtips has come up with some solutions to this very popular problem.

For instance, whenever you use flash you should try taking two or three photos so that people's eyes can adapt to the flash because most people blink from the anticipation and shock of the bright light in their eyes. Be sure not to go overboard though as too much flash in low lighting can damage the eyes!

Actually the best way is to keep your eyes downcast but your body posed until the photographer says "3" (or whatever they are saying like 1, 2, 3 flash" and then you look up at that moment. It will make you look more natural and not all squinty from smiling/staring that the camera waiting for so long.

I didn't know there were specific tips to avoid blinking in your photos.

My biggest problem is avoiding a glare on my glasses.

Great tip! (I'm almost always 'sleeping" or looking drunk (lol) on pix).

I agree, buffybot - I look away at something else until right before the picture, than flash a big smile at the camera. It has the benefit of reducing my tendency to blink and makes me look natural - and not like I've been freezing a smile on my face for 30 seconds.

oh that's a good idea... the other one I heard was making everyone closes their eyes and counting to three up to taking the picture.

I still blink, no matter what. Having done photoshoots, I've tried ALL the tricks. The only way I can get myself to not blink is if I have a continuous light shined in my eyes, like a flashlight, or if I'm drinking. Everyone makes fun of me for it.
