Seniors Have Some Swing Batter Batter Wii Fun

The Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, Maryland is following in the footsteps of the Sedgebrook retirement home in Chicago, Illinois by hosting Wii game tournaments. A feel good story from Kotaku explained how the residents at Riderwood had a Wii Home Run Derby last week in honor of Barry Bonds record-breaking home run. They even had Doris Terry, a pitcher from the 1940's All-American Girls Baseball League participate in the Derby. Considering 47 percent of all casual game players are 50 or older, and nearly 20 percent are 60 or older, the Wii seems like a fun way for seniors to get some exercise, stimulate their minds, and have a jolly good ol' time!

My In-Laws just got a Wii, after buying my 12 year old son one for Christmas. My son is getting quite a kick out of watching Nana and Poppa try to box, bowl , etc. The only games they have right now are Wii Sports and Wii Play, but my so had us all cracking up trying to imitate Poppa trying to box.

We absolutely love our Wii, and I think it is awesome that so many seniors are getting so much pleasure and exercise out of it!

Hahaha, that is so awesome! I used to try getting my grandfolks to play videogames when I was a kid, never succeeded. Meh.

Yeah, it's pretty cool that seniors are playing the Wii. They can stay fit and they have fun! Plus, it's good for Nintendo, it opens a new market for them!

That's so cool, it gives them something fun to do plus bridges the gap with the ones who have grandchildren.

My 60 year old dad said he never understood why people would play video games. He didn't even play Solitaire on his computer!

Then we brought our Wii over to his house, and he LOVED Rayman Raving Rabbids and WiiSports Boxing. old fogey Haha!

That's a great idea. They ought to try Super Monkey Ball for some cute puzzle games.

I love this. My grandparents (who are great-grandparents to my son) LOVE to play our Wii!!! It's hilarious to watch them.
