Griffin Creates Headphone Adapter for the iPhone

If you have an iPhone, you were probably just as furious as I was when I realized that my car adapter cord wouldn't fit into my iPhone's headphone jack. Unfortunately the iPhone headphone jack comes conveniently recessed so most standard headphones won't fit into the plug. Thankfully Griffin has just come out with this Headphone Adapter for iPhone so you can use your ordinary headphones with the iPhone. For $10 you can get one of these specially designed stereo-mini plugs and swap your Apple earbuds for your favorite headphones.

Why does it need the cord? Can't they just make a small adapter similar to a mini-jack to stereo jack adapter?

    I was so angry too!
I got one from Belkin and its okay, just annoying that I have to use it in the first place.

@verily - i think the cord is so that it is bendable and it wouldn't stick straight out. It's still pretty bulky tho.

It's not a standard jack, really? That's horrible! Between this, locking in to AT&T, and locking down the software on the iPhone for no good reason, Apple's "goodwill" cred has gone completely down the toilet with me.

I used to respect Apple, but all these decisions just scream "I'm greedy, you must buy OUR specific stuff".

I thought Apple was the innovator and gave us cool things (computers, ipods, iphones etc.) but the iPhone won't take your headphones with a standard jack?!!! Is this Steve Jobs trying to be Bill Gates?

It does have a standard jack. Unfortunately it is recessed so any headphones that have extra plastic around the tip can't fit deep enough into the hole.

And as far as this adapter I too don't understand why it needs all the extra bulk? Just give me a tiny adapter.

Or you could just not waste your money on an iPhone. I seriously don't get the hype -- not about Apple, and not about the iPhone.

the iphone IS the coolest thing ever. I can't tell you how amazed I am with it every day - and that with knowing there are things about it that could be better (3rd party apps, for one.)

I have the Belkin adapter because my Shure's won't fit without it. I am very disappointed in apple for making the headphone jacks recessed (was there a REASON for this?) and the Belkin adaptor is absolutely ridiculous. In that it's huge and ugly sticking out of my beautiful iPhone. This griffin one does look a little better - but I'm hoping that someone will come out with something with almost zero visibility.
