The New Palm Centro: Teeny, Chic and Affordable

The new ruby red Palm Centro is certainly one of those see it to believe it devices. When I first picked up the Centro, I couldn't get over how small it really is. Unlike other Palm Treos—which feel more like a bulky Blackberry 8700 than anything else, the Centro fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and is extremely lightweight. It includes a full QWERTY keyboard and although the keys aren't as easy to type on as the Treo 750, they're ideal for quick IM's or short emails nonetheless.

Other features include a built-in speaker with loud clear output, an instant on/off music button on the side, camera/video functionality, a full color 2" touchscreen and Google maps with traffic and satellite view—unfortunately, no GPS.

The Centro also comes in onyx black and will run on the Sprint network. Expect it to go on sale mid-October with a price tag of $100 (with a 2-year phone plan). After giving it a test drive, I can't say I'm going to trade-in my iPhone or Pearl anytime soon, but what I can say is that for a smartphone, it provides you with all basic necessities for a fraction of the cost of other devices on the market. Plus it's stylish and super compact!
