How To: Silence Unwanted Phone Calls From Randoms

This is by far one of the most simplest yet effective ways to stop wrong number calls from invading your cell phone. Thanks to Baby toolkit, if you follow these simple steps, you won't have to deal with Eddy looking for Freddy, or in my case Tifinity looking for Gigi (true story!).

  • Create a contact on your phone called wrong number.
  • Whenever a repeat wrong number offender calls, add them to the wrong number contact.
  • Change the wrong number contact ringer settings to silent.
  • Whenever one of your wrong number regulars calls, your phone shouldn't make a sound!
  • And hopefully when they keep getting your voicemail, they'll realize that Gigi has new number!

    This is useful.

I once had someone named Jose calling me about how he saw me at the club last night, etc.

    The club?

Dude, I'm in Philly, you're in Jersey. WHY would I go to a club in Jersey for one night?!

He kept texting me and harassing me, even though I kept telling him, "I'M NOT THE STUPID SKANK YOU SAW AT THE CLUB."

    Woe is me. :'[

By the way, compared the cell phones of now, that is a BIG one.

Not as big as an '80s cell phone (take a brick, add an antennae and buttons, and you've got your own '80s/early '90s cell phone!), but still large.

    Duh.

I don't get too many wrong numbers, and even if they do call I make sure they don't call again. It pays to be a "rude New Yorker" sometimes!

Ive done this for a long time with cell phone spammers - I have a nice collection of numbers that get the silent treatment. Keeps me from tearing my hear out every day.

tashab, that's so funny! I kept getting wrong numbers for some dude named Mike, with calls at 3am leaving messages (which I find funny, since my vm message has my female voice, but they left a message anyway!) about helping "cut the cheese", etc. Then I got a message from his mother, crying because she hadn't heard from him, was worried about him, etc. I had to call her back personally to let her know it was the wrong number! Poor woman.

Good idea! I get Asian guys and I can't understand who they really wanted, so it's pretty annoying.

I just set my cell to restrict all incoming calls, that way only people on my contact list can call me. If they are not on the
list the phone does not ring and goes straight to voicemail

I had to do this last week! An 800 number kept calling and telling me I have a mastercard and the payment is overdue. I don't have a mastercard. I've been told this number calls and tries to get you to give out another cc number, etc...

Good idea! However, if you have someone who repeatedly calls AFTER you have told them they have the wrong number, that qualifies as harassment. You can then call your local friendly police department and give them their number.

I had that problem, and trust me, they were swiftly dealt with.

If your cellphone has a "reject" or "block" function, you can add the number to the "reject" list, and then the calls and messages won't even come through to you in the first place. The Samsung SGH-E250, which is not even that advanced, has this function, so I would assume that all newer phones should be able to do this.
I mean, even if you don't hear a "wrong number" coming through, do you really want to be bombarded afterwards with pop-up messages on your phone and messages from the service provider, telling you that "you have 1 million missed calls"?
