As MacWorld inches closer and closer, I can't help but have a little fear of what will become of the Apple I know and love once Steve Jobs retires. Although Apple insists that he is ready to hand over the torch to a new set of leaders, the rumor remains that his health is the reason for the changeover and subsequent disappearing act from MacWorld.What do you think — Will Apple be the same without Steve Jobs as the leader and face of the company, or is the fear just all in our heads? Yesterday some shocking Apple news was announced that had the entire geek-filled blogosphere up in arms; Macworld 2009 would be Apple's very last Macworld. I was seriously stunned when I heard the news, but another Sugar peep summed it up best by saying, "That's like Santa announcing it's his last Christmas." Steve Jobs won't even be delivering the opening keynote this year, it'll be Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, which is going to be very strange, especially if he wears a black mock turtleneck and jeans.Since Steve Jobs, Apple announcements, and big unveilings have played a huge part in my-past-two Macworld experiences, I can't imagine what Macworld will be like without any shiny and new Apple gadgets and Steve Jobs kicking off the week with a big bang. What are your thoughts? How do you feel about the announcement? Source

Macworld 2008: What Can We Expect From Apple?

We're already gearing up for Macworld '08, wondering what surprises Steve Jobs will have hiding up his sleeve this time around. With all the craziness surrounding the iPhone last year, I'm not expecting any major, life-altering announcements this year, although you just never know with Jobs. According to MacRumors, a new 3G iPhone is expected to hit store shelves by May or June, which I'm sure we'll get a sneak peek of at Macworld. They have also speculated that the rumored ultra-portable laptop, which is said to be priced around $1,500, will also be revealed at Macworld. Stay tuned my friends . . .Source

Macworld: Taking Out iPhoto’s Trash

The June Macworld features a Mac 911 section Q and A on dealing with iPhoto’s trash and unless you are the biggest Mac geek ever (cough macgirl) I highly suggest you check it out. Here's more:

Q: Recently, I went through more than 2,000 photos in my iPhoto library and deleted the not-so-good ones in order to free up a little space on my hard drive. Alas, when I went to the Trash to empty it, none of the deleted photos were there. It seems that while I deleted them from the library, they are still buried somewhere on the hard drive. Where?—Gary Patterson

A: As you’ve discovered, your deleted iPhoto images don’t appear in the Finder’s Trash. Instead, you’ll find them in iPhoto’s own Trash. To truly remove iPhoto images from your hard drive, select the images that you want to delete from your iPhoto library and press the delete key on your Mac’s keyboard. This transfers the pictures to iPhoto’s Trash, which you’ll find at the bottom of the Source list. To really get rid of the images, control-click on iPhoto’s Trash icon and choose Empty Trash (see “Empty iPhoto’s Trash”). This gets rid of the images for good.

Apple TV Is Running 'A Few Weeks Late'

So the rumor that Apple had postponed the shipment date of Apple TV was 100 percent true. Apple announced it would ship Apple TV ($299) in February, but now expects it to go in mid-March. "Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected," spokeswoman Lynn Fox told Reuters. Apple has not released an official statement on its press site yet, but I will keep you updated.

What is Apple TV? Announced at this year's Macworld, Apple TV connects to your TV via an HDMI port or component video and audio ports. Its built-in, superfast 802.11 wireless capability syncs your iTunes library to any Mac or PC in the house. So, whatever is on your Apple TV stays in sync: Anytime you change your library in iTunes, it changes on Apple TV — wirelessly and automatically. You can get Apple TV for $299.

Oooo-la-la, behold the all mighty iPhone. This is what we saw at Macworld, hundreds of people crowding around the shiny glass case which showcased the luxurious iPhone. We were wondering just how many alarms would go off if someone broke the glass, which we were tempted to do out of curiosity- now if only we could have gotten our hands on it! Conan O'Brien's Fake iPhone Commercial

Funnyman Conan O'Brien and his crew created a hilarious faux iPhone commercial detailing some of the extra uses of the new iPhone from Apple, including: camera, movie player, remote control, bottle opener, blow dryer, lip gloss, condiment dispenser, cheese grater, treadmill, children's thermometer...the list goes on...and gets funnier.

Conan has always been one of my late night favorites - and a serious contender for Geek of the Week - so I was tickled pink to see this video. Here's to many more...and Steve Jobs, can you think about the hair dryer feature...a girl could use a thing like that.

How Does Apple Keep Its Secrets?

The fact that every tech blog and media outlet was obsessed with the iPhone this week is a testament not only to the the phone's design, functions or timing, but to Apple's ability to keep a really juicy secret. This week New York Times columnist David Pogue investigated Apple's hush tactics by asking Steve Jobs if he knew of the work of Jeffrey Han, who’s been demonstrating his big “multi-touch” screen technology since at least August 2005. Unnoticed Macworld Announcement: AirPort Extreme

You wouldn't know it from the press coverage, but the iPhone and Apple TV weren't the only new Apple items revealed at last week's Macworld. Steve Jobs also announced AirPort Extreme Base Station, a simple and wireless networking solution that will deliver up to five times the performance and twice the range of the previous model.

As a self confessed wifi freak, I'm so excited about this upgrade. I use the older model at home and have been perfectly happy with it in my bedroom and office, but my house is very long and it can get tricky getting a fast, consistent signal in my living room. The new AirPort Extreme will extend your wireless network to even more areas in a home or office and makes streaming digital content and transferring large files faster and easier - who can say no to that? You can preorder the Airport Extreme from Apple now for $179, or get it in stores in February. Like always, the Airport Extreme works for PC and Mac users.

"Because it was all backed up to a Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition."
My friend and I interpreted this display as an ad for the Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition storage device which comes in 60GB or 100GB capacities. Basically, these pictures were to show how many pictures were saved because they were stored on the Maxtor OneTouch III. Whether it was a marketing ploy or not, I vouch for it being a pretty cool display.

Apple Addicts Attack! Well not really, but plenty of Mac groupies did all gather at this week’s conference here in San Francisco. Macworld is a whole little world in itself, with tons of new flashy goodies and software for everything Apple. Of course, Steve Jobs' announcement about the new iPhone was a crowd pleaser - and there were plenty of geeky girls on hand that were willing to share their thoughts on the hot new gadget.

Touring around Macworld and checking out some of the latest products was definitely a rush. I was super pumped when I saw the Belkin display and even more excited when I saw this woman displaying the new SportCommand for iPod while on an exercise bike. I noticed how large the buttons were for easy use and I think it's great how this gadget protects your iPod from being dropped and damaged while working out. How Big Is the iPhone Really?

Yesterday, I got an intimate look at the iPhone, which means I got to stare at it through a rotating glass case at Macworld in San Francisco. So, I printed a mock of the phone so you could see how it measures up against some of my other favorite gadgets. Now is probably the time I should admit I have abnormally small hands.

The iPhone is 2.4 inches by 4.5 inches, with touch controls that let you enjoy all of your content — including music, audiobooks, videos, TV shows, and movies — on a sleek widescreen display. It also lets you sync your content from the iTunes library on your PC or Mac. As you can see, it's slightly larger than the RAZR and Blackberry, but it's also thinner. Steve Jobs Announces The iPhone!

The grand announcement has been made folks, and it's an iPhone! Earlier this week 63 percent of you said you wanted an iPhone, so I imagine there are lots of happy campers out there today.

The Apple-branded mobile phone will have a touch-screen that combines features of the iPod, with some of the most innovative technology I've heard about in a while. It will run on the Cingular network and use a mini version of OS X. The iPhone is 1.16 cm thick and has a 3.5" widescreen touchscreen display with multi-touch support, 8GB of onboard RAM, Bluetooth, WiFi, and a 2 megapixel camera. I'm at Macworld right now, so I'll keep you updated on this and other announcements throughout out the day. Engadget featured some great photos. I'm taking more right now.

Macworld Announcement: All Bets Are In

As you saw in yesterday's video my friends and I have been bombarded with everyone's predictions as to what Steve Jobs will announce at today's keynote address. In fact, things around the Moscone Center in San Francisco (where the Macworld convention is being held) are getting downright silly - despite the massive signs foreshadowing today's earthshaking announcement.

Gizmodo thinks we'll be getting "airport extreme."
Engadget puts their "smart money" on an iPhone or an Apple phone by any other name.
Sixty-six percent of geeksugar readers think it's an iPhone so I'm crossing my fingers and going with you guys. How chic would a phone from Apple be? Too chic!

Macworld's Bringing Sexy Back

Earlier today I noted four pretty dismal YouTube videos all tagged with "Macworld, 2007." Most of them were short scenes showing off the Moscone Center in San Francisco, where the show is being held. None of them had any thrilling information, as the exhibition hall doesn't even open until tomorrow, but they had all been viewed upward of 20,000 times. And so, in the spirit of the times, here is what my friends and I cooked up while making fun of over-eager bloggers. Can't you feel the anticipation?

Steve Jobs makes his big announcement tomorrow morning at 9 am during his highly- anticipated keynote address at Macworld.
