I was pretty surprised to hear that Wii Fit has just beaten Grand Theft Auto IV in video game sales — who woulda thunk it that the Nintendo-exercising contingent would best the shoot-em-up contingent?If you followed my progress, you'd know that I lost a few pounds and gained some skills in my month-long Wii Fitness challenge, so I'm a believer, but that was several months ago. While I did it largely as an experiment, I want to know if those of you who helped beat GTA IV and bought the Wii Fit, have actually gotten fitter as a result. Do tell!Source

Early Preview: Tomb Raider Underworld For Wii and DS

I've totally been on a gaming binge these past few weeks, and who can blame me? We're ramping up for the holiday season, and I'm trying to figure out which games to add to my wish list! There are a whole slew of games hitting the shelves in the next few months, and I got a chance to check out one of them at an early preview last week. I got my hands on Tomb Raider: Underworld — both the Wii and DS versions — and I already have a clear favorite between the two.

Tomb Raider: Underworld takes us to the depths of the oceans and to new locales like Thailand, Mexico, and the Arctic to unlock the mystery of Thor's Hammer — a mythical Norse God who was said to smash mountains into valleys, and possessed the strength to destroy Gods. Of course, Lara is not the only one seeking this hammer, and finds herself in some interesting situations. Natch.

Gamers Praying For an End to the Wii Shortage This Season

Were you one of the many frustrated shoppers last year who waited in line for hours (or days — you know who you are) to get your hands on a Nintendo Wii, only to be crushed with disappointment when you found out they were sold out? Fear not my gaming friends. This year, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime hopes there will be plenty of Wii and DS systems to go around this holiday season, and will be increasing shipments for both consoles by 50 percent between October and December.

Wii Music: Don't Call It Rock Band

After I got my party on with Raving Rabbids and had my fill with the Personal Trainer Chef Edition, it was time to rock out with the Wii!

Wii Music (coming out Oct. 20), is Nintendo's answer to Rock Band, but is only similar to it in the sense that you're standing-up and interactively making music. Elements of competition are removed, and replaced with the ability and encouragement to play songs any way you want.

Using the Wiimote and Nunchuk controls, you can choose among a ton of instruments like piano, violin, guitar and the cat and dog (you read that correctly), and then play with your friends to make stylized versions of classic songs. The music is a bit more midi-sounding than Rock Band or Guitar Hero, the avatars just Miis, and all the songs super family-friendly, which makes Wii Music a really great option if you want to expose kids to a music game, but aren't that comfortable with the graphics and songs that the other games provide.

Two of my favorite Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party games include the ski hill game where you get to sit on the Wii Balance Board and steer with your butt as you go down a ski slope (as you encounter obstacles and try to gain points) and the dancing game where you get your groove on and follow the moves on the screen with your wiimote to get points!

Aly and AJ Design Guitar Hero and Rock Band Guitars

I'm not overly familiar with this female duo, but popular to to the tween generations, teen pop band Aly and AJ, will be coming out with their own guitars for games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band for the Wii and PS2 in a few weeks. Each guitar will cost a cool $70, and fans will be able to choose from Aly's Guitar, which will feature a heart and cross bone print in a pink and brown color, or AJ's pink Guitar that features a purple zebra print and is in the shape of a heart. Performance Designed Products, the makers of the guitars, will create one of the guitars specifically for tweens, ages 8 to 12 while the other will be targeted for teens and older. Miis Sneak Their Way Into Guitar Hero World Tour

If you don't think you'll be able to break away from Guitar Hero long enough to check out Wii Music this October, but like the idea of seeing your Mii rock out on guitar then you, my friend, are in luck. The Wii version of the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour will have a special game exclusive to Wii players called "Mii Freestyle" that lets you jam with a friend, and see your Mii playing along on screen.

Similar to the game's Music Studio mode, Mii Freestyle lets you pick and choose the notes you play (hence the whole freestyle concept), and you can even jam with the Nunchuck and Wiimote air-guitar style. Yes, you heard me, air guitar. I better get my game face on, stat!

Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People Out Now!

You gotta know Homestar Runner, right? Well the Internet sensation and his pal Strong Bad have put out their very own PC and downloadable WiiWare game called Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People! Being released in a series of episodes, the first called "Homestar Ruiner" was released Monday and will cost you 1,000 Wii Points or $9 to download on your PC. You may wonder how HSR can possibly make a video game out of their letter answering, cartoon making, and milk snorting, but since I love Homestar Runner so, so much, I'm totally getting this, no questions asked.

The first episode starts with Strong Bad's plans to beat up Homestar Runner going awry, and somehow ends with an unwanted houseguest ruining his flow. New Mario and Zelda Games Hitting the Wii

If you've been wondering what's next for the Wii after conquering Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, then wonder no more. The E3 Summit kicked off this week, and the President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, revealed yesterday at a press event that new titles for both Mario and Zelda are in the works.

Iwata admitted there is a dire need for quality games like Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, which I have to totally agree with, since the sub-par mass of third party games and movie tie-ins are getting a bit old. Although he didn't reveal any other info, I'm totally stoked already! Bring on more Mario!

Wii Fit Fitness Journal: Week Three

My 30 day Wi Fit Fitness Challenge is fast approaching the home stretch, and I couldn't be happier with the results! In just three weeks, I'm down four pounds, which may not seem like a lot, but it's pretty awesome considering I stopped my usual routine of going to the gym and didn't change my eating habits. Although I might miss my goal of losing eight pounds, I think losing any inches (and getting closer to a healthier BMI) is a pretty good testament that the Wii Fit really does work.

I spent a ton of time getting down with Rhythm Boxing, and increased my aerobic fitness (surely at the dismay of my downstairs neighbors) with the Free Run this week. I'm not so enthused about jogging in the real world, but when it comes to running with Wii Fit, I'm a calorie burner! Who knew!? First Look at the Wii Fit and Rules for the Fitness Test

Yesterday, I hit the gym. . .I mean, the Wii Fit for a taste of what's to come in my 30 day Wii Fit Fitness Test. Although I wasn't expecting to break a sweat, I did have a nice dewy glow after trying out a few of the Wii Fit's features. My fave so far? Hula Hooping!

You may be wondering what rules I'll be setting for myself this month as I begin the 30 day Wii Fit Fitness Test. They are simple, but I can promise that I'll stick to them to give you the most accurate results possible. I'll even stop hitting the gym and make Wii Fit my only source of exercise for a full month! Are You Still Minus a Wii?

Don't hate me, but I've had my Wii since they first hit the shelves back in 2006. I know, I know, some people are still scouring through weekly Target ads, obsessively clicking refresh on Amazon, and getting up at the crack of dawn to wait outside a game store just on the off chance they might get one in stock. I understand your pain and I'm not here to brag, just to ask the question on everyone's mind: Why are Wii's still so hard to find?

With the Wii heading towards its second birthday this year, why the heck can't those unlucky folks get their hands on one? I don't have to tell you that I'm a big time Nintendo fan, what with my DS always in tow, and all my Super Mario Bros paraphernalia that litters my bookshelves . . . oh, well, you probably haven't seen that, have you? Anyway, yesterday afternoon, the Nintendo stork dropped a sweet little box on my desk, and I didn't even have time to tell you since I literally "raced" home (get it — raced?) and started playing my copy of Mario Kart Wii! Yes, racing fans, I got the scoop on one of the hottest games to hit the shelves this Spring, and I just had to test it right away. Who wouldn't? As you might be able to tell, I was totally stoked to get the chance to play MKW early, since there is a special place in my heart for racers. But seriously, Mario Kart Wii is just as fun as you'd imagined.

When I first opened the box, the first thing I noticed was that the Wii Wheel was smaller than I expected, but still fits nicely into your hands. It might even fit into your eight year old's hands, if you'd let them have a turn, that is! But unfortunately, the pack only comes with one wheel, so you should keep an eye out for additional ones so you can play nicely with others. After popping in the disk, inserting my Wiimote into the wheel, and doing a little Mario jig, I was ready to race. Lost Winds Coming to WiiWare

First previewed at this year's Game Developers Conference, Lost Winds will be a title to watch out for on the Wii in the upcoming months. Although I'm totally looking forward to the much hyped Grand Theft Auto IV, I do like a nice, friendly Nintendo game to have some fun with. Lost Winds has you playing as Taku as you navigate your way through the world of Mistralis. In this world, you are trying to find and piece together shards of a spirit stone with the help of the wind called Enril, which you also have control over. Using the nunchuck to direct Taku, and the Wiimote to aim Enril's breezes, you not only help Taku jump, but can push over rocky obstacles, light torches and spray water.

OK, so it seems to be a fun and interesting puzzle game, but it's totally pretty, right?! I love little Taku and his cape, plus it kind of reminds me of Zelda. Lost Winds doesn't yet have a release date, but word has it that it will be out on WiiWare very soon. Check out more screens when you

Get Your Game On: March Releases

Can you smell that? Not only is Spring in the air, but I'm getting a slight whiff of Super Smash Bros Brawl! Release day is finally drawing near, and although it's not the only game that I'm looking forward to, it's definitely at the top of my "must buy" list this month. Bonus for me, my local Gamestop is hosting an in-store Brawl showdown (with some pretty sweet prizes), to help count down the minutes until midnight when we can take our own copies home!

Test Your Triva Knowledge With Smarty Pants For the Wii

When I went home for the holidays I knew my family would go nuts over Guitar Hero III, but I had no idea the screaming and hollering that would ensue when I popped in Smarty Pants for the Wii. Picture old-school Trivial Pursuit meets electronic Jeopardy and that's exactly what this game is about — plus the additional fun of being able to use a wiimote! Smarty Pants is a new trivia game that comes with 20,000 questions across eight different categories that are suitable for both adults and children.

Although you can play this game alone, it's certainly more fun with friends or family as questions are timed and you are able to play simultaneously. You can even enter your age for age-specific questions to increase the difficulty level (although in my case it made me want to brush up on my trivia knowledge)! Other fun features include being able to import your Mii avatars, having "dance-offs" for additional points, and participating in wiimote tug-of-wars when players buzz in at the same time. Smarty Pants is currently priced at $40.

There was a point in time when we reveled in all Wii and Mii news — from funny Mii tee shirts and personalized Mii cake decorations to the Martha Stewart Wii cakes. Sure, it's still cute to hear about retirement communities playing the Wii and the fact that they are now available via Amazon, but I'm not sure I have time to go online and vote on Mii creations. Just when I thought that there was a slim to nil' chance I'd be getting my hands on a Wii before Christmas, a little tech savvy birdie just informed Geeksugar that Amazon.com is getting ready to sell a shipment of Wii gaming consoles TOMORROW!

That's right, we are first to report that the Wii's are expected to go on sale Wednesday morning. Talk about a nice little treat for Halloween!

If you're getting bored of Wii bowling, Nintendo has just announced a new addition to the Wii video game family—Wii Music! Discussed on Gearfuse, with Wii Music you can use your Wiimote and Nunchucks to control various musicians. The game will feature forty different instruments and if you round up a bunch of Mii's you can have multi-player band experience. The game is set to be released in Japan next year and then Europe soon after. Is it just me or does this game look somewhat entertaining? I can totally picture my family trying to play Wii Music— me and my sisters would be claiming instruments before we even press start!

Four Erickson retirement communities recently joined together for one common goal— to kick some major Wii bowling butt! As you already know, Wii gaming is very popular among seniors, with Wii bowling being a top favorite! Here is a video from Erickson Sports, which showcases some highlights from game one of the first annual "Erickson Sports Nintendo Wii Bowling Championship." I just love anything related to Wii playing and seniors. It warms my heart and tickles my toes. I guarantee that once you watch this video, you'll get a huge smile on your face. Last night I happened to catch a few minutes (I swear it was only a few minutes) of a maximum security prison reality show. Seniors Still Love The Wii

We've all heard that the Wii is a favorite pastime for senior citizens in fact, the console has even become a staple in retirement communities and taught us that 47 percent of all casual game players are 50 or older, and nearly 20 percent are 60 or older. Sure, the image of granny picking up the Wii is pretty darn cute, but it doesn't stop there. The Sun is reporting that residents as old as 103 have ditched knitting and bridge after getting hooked on the console. Says Barrie Edgar, who is 88, “It’s great fun. We’ve only had it a few days but we can’t put it down.” So, some things really don't change with age, do they?

When it comes to playing the Wii I usually keep things pretty simple. My primary repertoire includes Wii Sports (especially Wii Boxing) and Cooking Mama, so when tdamji e-mailed me about the Camy Hero Pack for the Wii Remote I was intrigued, but unsure what I would do with it. Then I thought about 8-12 year old boys around the world and how much they love playing Zelda and Wii. Indeed, this must be the ultimate kit for someone's tot out there. It's not for sale yet, but the website claims it's coming soon. It will feature a soft foam blade (you don't want to really slay those dragons), and an unobstructed IR port allowing the shooting function of the Wii remote to still work.

Martha Stewart Does Edible Geek On Wired

Homemaking expert Martha Stewart may not have stripped down like Jenna Fischer for her cover of Wired, but she does get her geek on with a baked-to-perfection Wii cake and by revealing her inner techieness.

Gadget obsessed Martha stays connected with her BlackBerry and Razr (pink perhaps?) and it's no surprise that the super organized Stewart has a "servery," a room with two long white marble counters on either side with lots of plugs, where she keeps her gadgets, charges her cameras and stores batteries. She also attempts to keep wires and "crap" (no lie) to a minimum, opting for iPods in every room with wireless speakers. Here are some more highlights from the interview:

On the new marthastewart.com re-design: "I'm working on Marthapedia right now, which is my version of Wikipedia. If you know how to take red wine out of a white cloth napkin better than I do, that's good to know. We'll be editing user content, and it won't be as freewheeling as Wikipedia. What geeks can learn from her: "First of all, they can learn to prioritize, and they can learn how to make things beautiful. It's about using your hands and your mind to make things work better. Zachary Levi Loves His Wii

Buzz and Pop headed to LA to check out NBC's TCAs and we're pleased to report that they got some fun insider gaming info on one of the upcoming new shows. "Chuck" is set to be a big hit leading into "Heroes" on Monday night and the main character Zachary Levi (Chuck) and his goofy sidekick BFF Morgan are all about gaming. They revealed that they love their games both in character and in real life as well. In fact, Levi came to the set one day after a disastrous Wii accident. Here's more:

"Yeah I was playing Nintendo Wii and I got 14 stitches. I put my hand through a light fixture in my living room. So I'm cool. Who can cut their hand open playing Nintendo. This guy right here (pointing to himself)."

Apparently, Zach hasn't realized how common it is to get injured while playing the Wii - what with cases of Wiiitis popping up all over the place.

Kotaku has announced that these cute little Wii Smart cars will be out and about in various Canadian cities in the next couple months promoting the console. Each car comes fully equipped with a TV and console for all your gaming pleasure! We all know how much Canadians love the Nintendo Wii, so I'm sure they will be super excited to see these blue and white cars visiting their town.

Baby Thinks Wii Is Pretty Funny

Just when I think I've almost had enough of the Wii, I am reminded just how great it is. You have to see how this adorable baby boy reacts as he watches his dad play the Nintendo Wii - his laughter is infectious and too cute for words! Either he knows something we don't or he's going to be the next best Wii golf player ever. I'd say this one is a near match for the infamous geeky girl going wild video!
