Giving gag gifts has become somewhat of a tradition in my family, ever since my aunt gave me a box of strawberry Jello on Christmas morning back in '88. So after 20 years of Richard Simmons workout tapes, boxes of Kleenex, and Tucks Medicated pads, I wanted to switch it up a bit.After much searching, I think I found the perfect gift: The Hacked and Frayed Flash Drive. This 2GB flash drive is only 30 bucks, but it will be totally priceless since Auntie will think I gave her a broken cable as a gag, when actually it's a working storage device. It's the best of both worlds — useful, and gag-worthy at the same time! Awesome.

It might be that I'm picking the wrong plants for the environment they would be growing in. If you are a fellow plant-killer, there is rehab available out there — and it's called the EasyBloom. It's not easy to keep USB cords in order, but the 88 percent of you who like creative organizers will probably agree this USB multiplug ($16) looks like it could help.

These days I tend to just look for a desk lamp that can do what it's supposed to do: light up. Even when it has a nice second feature, like this lamp/iPod dock, I just want a utilitarian lamp. But I could totally ignore all that for this USB Desk Lamp by Japanese Design firm Conof, which provides light and spare USB ports? Plus, I just love that cool C-shape — and the lamp head also rotates 270 degrees. Doesn't look like pricing is available yet, but I'm wishing and hoping for a green one. But what do you think? I wonder if Steve Jobs loves that people keep appending an "i" to their products in an Apple-like fashion, or if he thinks they're stealing his thunder. Either way, you put an i in front of a simple word, and you suddenly have an attention-grabbing product name.

At least the latest perpetrator of this iCrime, the iPot, is actually pretty useful and attractive, not unlike Apple products in general, so it's not an offhand association. As a little desk lamp, the iPot provides an LED light in a glowing white pod, charges on a USB cord, and is affordable: just $19. Light it up! Do you like it?

Novelty USBs are a dime a dozen now, and food USB sticks are nothing new. But if we are talking an entire spread of Chinese barbecue then how can I (or anyone) resist?

USB Mixed Tape Set Has Me Longing For My Dual Deck Stereo

You remember the time before playlists, don't you? Those were the days where dual decks and mixed tapes ruled the world. Making a mixed tape was a big deal and not to be taken lightly. Just look at Rob Gordon in High Fidelity — making the perfect mixed tape is a laborious process that takes blood, sweat, and tears! Tears!

But since we no longer are slaves to the cassette, it seems the magic has faded with it. Handing someone a wimpy jewel case or a link to your online playlist just isn't the same. Someone else thought so, too, and is bringing back the fond memories with the Suck UK Mixed Tape USB set. It takes the best of both worlds: digital music, which is uploaded to the USB stick, and the tactile warmth of a tape case you can write on — old-school style with hearts and everything. Totally vintage geek and totally cool.

Urban Outfitters has really been satisfying my vintage needs lately, but with shiny newness intact. First there was that old-timey USB Webcam, and now this mod-ish USB Desk Fan! It's only $15 bucks and unlike that webcam, works for both Macs and PCs.Since this is basically a miniature-sized version of a fan that I have in my house, I have no qualms about its design and think it's a bit more attractive than the other USB fans I showcased recently. Being one of those people who kills every living thing that comes into my household (besides boyfriends and animals), I am really digging this USB Greenhouse. Plug it in and plant your seeds — it comes with marigold seeds, but you can sub in your favorite flower or other plant too — and the Greenhouse nurtures your little baby buds like my black thumb could never accomplish alone. It comes with artificial soil, a light, and a tray, and it will even tell you when it needs to be watered. Or in my case, beg. What do you think? Desk brightener, or a little too on the artificial side?

Pizza Flash Drive: Love It or Leave It?

I'm always worried that my standard memory sticks will get lost in the shuffle of my desk and drawers because of how plain and boring they are. Sure, I know I can get some brightly colored Pantone USB sticks and other cute ones, but I tend to just grab whatever has the space I need, not thinking about distinctive design. So it's pretty obvious that the Pizza Flash Drive would not be difficult to spot in a desk drawer, and I would love to see my coworkers' faces when I whip it out and plug it in. The drawbacks are that it holds just 1 GB for $50, and quite frankly, I'm getting hungry just looking at it. And that is not good for summer bathing suit plans. What do you think?

Today is hot, ridiculously hot, in San Francisco (99 degrees hot), and as much as I love a good heat wave, this geek's gotta get herself a desk fan. And why settle for an ordinary fan when I can have one that looks fun and tropical like the ones below? And for extra geek points, they are both USB-powered — no batteries needed! I thought I had my geeky USB fix when I discovered the USB Exercising Dog last week, but guess again folks, I don't think anything can top Gizzy the data worm. Yes, beneath all that hand-made designer fuzzy goodness lies a 4GB flash drive awaiting all your juicy files. When I first spotted this interesting USB drive on technabob, I had a hard time believing it was worth the $68 it costs. But then when I read his little bio on NifNaks, I couldn't help but find him somewhat irresistible. "He loves super-tart gumballs, and won’t eat anything orange. He enjoys bungee jumping, but most days he’s content just to sit around and read a book. Gizzy is of course an amazing speller and will knock your socks of in Scrabble." On that note, what do you think? Too geeky?

Last week at CES I got the chance to check out some of the Active Crystal USB Memory Keys from Philips and Swarovski. These Active Crystal flash drives are as luxurious in person as they appear to be on the product site. Made from polished stainless steel and silver shade crystals set in ceralun, this USB device comes disguised in a lovely lock. It also includes 1GB of storage (roughly storing 250 songs or 1000 photos) and is password protected. Both the heart and the lock cost $178 each.

The Roxy CD Player may look retro, but it comes fully-loaded with many modern day features and functionalities. When I spotted this player on 7Gadgets I had no idea that it had a 3-speed turntable under the lid, a USB connection and that you can use mp3 players and flash memory drives with it as well! Besides coming with an iPod dock, it all sounds good right? Mixing the old with the new doesn't come cheap though, as the Roxy player costs $291. Would you consider this your style or are you gonna leave this one alone?
