Is it bad (or over the top geeky) that earphone cord holders excite me? I guess I'm guilty of always having cords that get twisted, knotted and end up in a big messy ball. Who needs some elaborate contraption to keep them organized when there are some great tiny yet effective inventions on the market. Two of my favorites include the
Sombrero Spools and the adorable bunny and cube cord organizers, and now I've got two more to add to the list!

The Belkin 3-Pack TuneTie ($14) lets you feed your cable through the figure eight and use only the length you need while the Earbud Yo-Yo keeps your cord nicely wound. The Earbud Yo-Yo, which you can personalize with various designs, will debut (with a price tag) at CES in January.

This past year, clean contactboxes popped up all over the place — from fancy wall-mounted boxes to simpler smart tech desk boxes from Pottery Barn. This Contactbox ($92) by designer Anna Falkenmark keeps cords nice, neat, and out of the way, but it does stand out as a unit. Would you use one around your home and office, or do you prefer old-fashioned cord organizing methods?

Multiplug USB Helps Keep Cords All Wrapped Up

It's not easy to keep USB cords in order, but the 88 percent of you who like creative organizers will probably agree this USB multiplug ($16) looks like it could help.

The device was designed by Theo Williams and features three sockets and four LED lights to denote connectivity. I like that it airs on the subtle side of cord management and doesn't involve a complicated wall mount or cartoon-like coverage. I also like that it looks a wee bit like the cord base that came with my old iBook.

The Cable Box Tidies You Up One Cord at a Time

Not impressed with Real Simple's sock tip to gather your cords? I know what you mean, because if you have to see the cords, you don't also want to see an old partnerless tube sock.

The Cable Box ($30) comes in handy because if the part of my cords I want organized is visible and even gathered in those little tubes, I'm not happy. The Cable Box gathers them up, including the power strip, and holds them in an inconspicuous box. It's available in black or white, so you can match it with your other gadgets.

Geek Tip: Use an Old Tube Sock to Round Up Your Cords

I never thought of this super simple solution for an old sock, and I thought I'd heard all the cord organizing tricks out there! Courtesy of this month's issue of Real Simple, the editors suggest using an old trouser sock to wrap around cords to keep them together.

Just snip off the toe part so you have a little tube, unplug from the power strip, insert the cords, and then plug them back in.

They say trouser sock, but I keep envisioning a cute striped retro tube sock! Their tip also has them gathered from a power strip, but I could also see using them to keep cords wrapped tightly around one another when they're put away.

Wall-Mounted Contactbox: Out of the Way and Into My Heart

With all the electronics and cords at my house, I really appreciate good-looking charging stations. Last year, designer Anna Falkenmark introduced her Contactbox, which received mixed results from our corner of the world.

Personally, I think it's great, but — and this is my problem with pretty much every charging station — where do you keep it? It asks for a horizontal space to place it on, which I can't give up in a small place, and I imagine that even if you're in a bigger space, where you put it is still a problem.

Enter Falkenmark's Wall-Mounted Contactbox! This charging station can be mounted on the wall while discreetly hiding your cord mess inside the door. Elastic cords keep your devices flush against the front. That's sort of where I get scared though — can I trust it to not drop my iPhone (not that I haven't already dropped it a million times, and she keeps tickin')? I'd feel better about putting my more lightweight BlackBerry Curve onto it, but still — please don't drop my babies.

Cell Phone Contactbox: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I like the idea of keeping my cell phone cords nice and tidy but I don't know if I'd want to use a big box to hide them. Discussed on 7Gadgets, this Contactbox will hide your chargers and electric cords and keep them well protected from children and pets, but I'd rather use something half this size. What I do like about it is the fact that it includes a six way multiple plug and you can easily pull cords through the top to attach to your gadgets. It also reminds me of the Pottery Barn Smart Tech line, which can help feng shui any decor. Priced at $106 each. Is it chic or too geek?

I love cute, kitschy accessories that keep your desk looking cheery yet serve a functional purpose. I'm all about ingenious ways to hide my cords, but I don't know if I'd be willing to put up a white-picket fence in order to do so. Here are two creative ways to keep those pesky cables hidden— a Wall Cleat and a Picket Fence. Featured on Gearfuse, the white, simplistic Wall Cleat lets you wrap loose, unplugged cables around it, therefore keeping your dangling cables neatly stowed. And with the indoor Picket Fence which I spotted on OhGizmo!, will create a wall to hide all your wires around a room — much nicer looking than using duct tape, that is for sure! I can't seem to get enough of these simplistic cable cord spools. I got so excited about the headphone cable wraps which were basically a colored clip and now I'm equally excited about this cord manager. Designed by Andrea Ruggiero and featured on Apartment Therapy, the Sombrero Cord Management accessory (named Sombrero because of its straw hat shape), keeps cords stowed away in an organized fashion. You can screw it onto a vertical or horizontal surface, spool your cord, anchor the outgoing cord into one of the three notches to prevent accidental unwinding and stack them on top of each other. Available in avocado green, aqua blue, pimento red, noche grey and media noche from Mockett for $4. What do you think of it? Something you could see yourself using?

Cute 'Woofy' Dog Hides Cables

Designer Gabriel Nigro was sick and tired of the "cable spaghetti" on his floor when he came up with Woofy, a cute cable concealer that happens to be shaped like an adorable puppy. The injection moulded piece is perfect for an office, living room and even a child's play area.

Nigro is quoted as saying: "have always been irritated at the sight of cables lying everywhere and ending up as cable spaghetti on the floor. So I came up with Woofy. In my opinion, the thing you buy for the home should add something more to it than just functionality - and that is what Woofy does."

Woofy costs about $200 and doesn't shed fur, need to be walked or fed. I'm in love.

I can't seem to decipher much from the Japanese audio-technica product page, but what I do know is these headphone cable wraps are colorful, simplistic and look like the ideal clip for inside a purse pocket. I like the fact that cord organizers are becoming so tiny and cute these days — case in point, have you seen the adorable Tetrans? What are your thoughts about this clip-style? There's really no excuse for cable clutter, but we all have them. Whether it's your power cords, LAN cord, assortment of USB devices or charger cords, the best thing you can do is designate a special organizational time and sort the mess out.

Sometimes, the solution is as simple as getting a selection of wire ties, laying the cords straight and securing them into a tube-like shape with ties. If it's a cell phone, iPod and portable device chargers that you battle, consider fitting your cords into a PowerStation organizer or Pottery Barn's new Smart Tech Recharge Station.

If you want to get really organized it doesn't hurt to color code your cables according to device, or pick up retractable cord organizers that will allow you to connect to the internet or power source anywhere in the house without a stringy mess following you everywhere. Is Your Mouse Lonely? It Get It A Cat Cable

In a world filled with amazing work-minded laser and wireless mice it seems there is little wiggle room for silly mouse decorations and charms. Still, this cute little cat cable makes me say "awwww" in a way I frankly can't control. I think my affinity for this little kitty has something to do with the cell phone bling phenomenon - no matter how hard you try to prevent it, it's all too easy to get wrapped up in cute, tiny accessories that serve no real function.

Ways To Cut Down On Computer Cable Clutter

Sick and tired of your computer cable jungle? Unclutterer has put together a great list of helpful tips to keep your desk area clean. The most useful, I think at least, is to keep your desk in mind whenever you buy a new gadget or computer and consider the number of additional cables the device will add to your workspace. Here's more:

Laptops will usually only require a single power cable. Also, they can be easily stored out of sight when not in use.
Opt for bluetooth and wifi enabled peripherals over those that require cords. This is a great way to get rid of cables for your keyboard, mouse, and printer.
If you use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, an iMac will also only require a single power cable. This is a good alternative to a laptop if you need a larger display. An iMac also affords the benefit of an integrated webcam that won’t require any additional cables.
Many newer peripherals are able to receive power over either USB, Firewire, or Ethernet. Not only does this help you reduce the number of cables, but it also can spare you from having to deal with those large and heavy wall-wart transformers that are usually required.
