I know, Christmas is still over three months away, but I had to share this crucial life-altering info in case you've been trying to get your hands on a Wii or you know someone who has one on their wish list. The Wii is in stock at Walmart! Not only is it available online and in the store, but you can purchase fun bundles like the "Wii Starter Bundle" or the "Wii with Wii Fit Bundle." It wasn't that long ago that there was a shortage of these little white consoles and I'm pretty sure they'll all get scooped up during the holiday season, so get 'em while you can!

Kid Receives the Worst Surprise Christmas Morning

Just when you think you've hit the jackpot and Santa finally pulled through this year by getting you your Playstation 3, you rip open the box to find a boring phone book, without a gaming console in sight.

This exact situation happened to a kid in Thousand Oaks, California where his PS3 was switched with a heavy phone book.

According to Engadget, the PS3 wasn't purchased on eBay or second-hand, but rather at the local EB Games, which makes this story even more shocking. The parents are just as stunned as their son and are trying to track down their PS3 as we speak. Talk about the worst Christmas ever! Let's just hope this hasn't happened to anyone else!

iMac Concept Video Spreads Holiday Cheer

Reminiscent of Hollywood Squares, this light animated concept commercial was created by Mark Richardson of Ragus Media. The video showcases thirty iMacs getting festive to some holiday tunes—quite impressive for us Mac geeks! According to Gizmodo, Richardson added in the light effects with Maxwell Render (a light simulator), which allowed for manipulation in real time on the production system, a quad core Mac Pro. Watch and be amazed, it's the perfect Christmas treat!

After finding these two links on the PC News Blog, I knew that they wouldn't go to waste—especially on the day before Christmas! The first link is a free downloadable paper Christmas tree that you can easily print out on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. After you download the PDF file and print out your tree, cut around the pattern and fold where indicated. And just like that, you'll have your very own festive and decorative (not to mention homemade) centerpiece for Christmas! The second link is from Yanko Design where you'll find some creative holiday cards from various designers. Print them out for decorations or share with others!

Geek Tip: Taking Great Photos of Xmas Lights

By the time Christmas rolls around each year, I'm usually too busy having a jolly ol', good time with friends and family to be paying attention to my photo skills. Thankfully there are easy tips and tricks like the ones below from the Strobist blog that will turn blurry Xmas pics into beautiful clear images.

If you are taking pics outdoors, make sure you shoot them before it gets totally dark for proper exposure.
Turn off your flash and set your camera on a tripod or steady surface.
Shoot a test shot every minute so you can watch the Christmas lights appear as the ambient light level goes down. You'll notice how much the light changes in each photo.
If your photo appears too orange for your liking, adjust the white-balance settings to tungsten. For capturing outdoor light displays, use the same exposure as you would for indoor shots, but switch the white-balance settings to outdoor.

There's now an application for Mac users called Santa's Gizmo, which serves as an excellent organizing tool for all your shopping lists. What struck me about this application, which I saw on

You'd think that smoking Christmas lights would be something only Clark Griswold would have to deal with in Christmas Vacation. Guess again! I was totally shocked when TeamSugar told me that her new Micro Lights short-circuited and melted the outlet plug. Yikes! TeamSugar noticed that the lights went out around 5pm, and she could smell melting plastic. When she came back at 11pm, the entire plug had exploded. It's better to be safe than sorry this holiday season. Keep a close eye on your new lights and if worse comes to worse, trade in your real tree for a fiber optic USB Christmas tree, you know, just to be on the safe side!

One Laptop Per Child Posts Shipping Info

With the One Laptop Per Child project underway, people who participated in OLPC's Give One, Get One program are anxiously awaiting their XO laptops. Engadget has just announced that expected shipment dates are now available on the OLPC website. According to the site, those who placed their order by November 12th will receive their machine before Christmas. Purchases made after Nov. 12 have varying delivery dates, although OLPC is trying to ship as many laptops as possible. The site also notes that donated laptops will reach a child in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Haiti, Mongolia or Rwanda in early 2008.Source

When I first saw this MemoryVue digital frame on GeekAlerts, I thought cute—such a great Christmas gift idea! Then I saw the price, which is around $1000 and I thought no way. Thankfully this frame does come with a few useful bells and whistles which compensates for its expensive price tag. The frame not only plays pictures, but songs and video clips as well. Each MemoryVue 1900 comes with a high resolution 19" screen, built-in stereo speakers and a remote control for slide show and player functions.
