Steve has just announced the new MacBook Air in addition to the new Pros; the big changes here are in hard-drive size (they've gone up to 120 GB from 80 GB) and graphics — they're now four times as fast.

The size stays the same at a 13.3-inch display; the lower level price is $1,799, and the version with the faster processor and solid state drive is $2,499.

Charlie Rose Is Not a MacBook AirHead

Talk show host Charlie Rose was looking pretty banged up on his show last night. With a black eye and a bandage above his eyebrow, viewers couldn't help but wonder if the interviewer had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Turns out Rose tripped in a pothole on 59th street in Manhattan yesterday. According to TechCrunch, he was carrying his brand-new MacBook Air and decided to protect the Air over his face. Although his face bore the brunt of the fall, his laptop is A-OK, with only a few blood stains from the incident. Charlie Rose, you are our new Apple superhero!

I was first on the scene to report that Apple would be announcing a new MacBook and MacBook Pro today and guess what all you naysayers — I was right! Both the MB and MB Pro have received major upgrades, including the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives (MBP 200GB-250GB, MB 120GB - 250GB), and more memory. Unfortunately, the multitouch trackpad is only coming to the Pro. . . . One would assume that Jobs would have wanted to make this a standardized feature across the board?!

Prices start at $1,999 for the 15-inch MacBook Pro and $1,099 for the 13-inch MacBook.

GS: Tell my few readers that haven’t heard of you a little about yourself:
DC: Well, I used to be a preschool teacher, but now I do this ridiculous gig. Writing about cool stuff all day, kind of awesome. My life isn't too exciting. . . I spend my days and nights hanging out at bars and cafes writing, reading, and seeing friends. I really love obscure music, nature documentaries, and old-school video games.

GS: When we chit-chatted at CES, you mentioned that you don't read a ton of blogs each day. Is this true? And if so, how do you get all your info for stories?
DC: Well, what I write on isn't always what I keep tabs on. I love looking up stuff like new camera gear, Indie gaming news, and PC hardware. . . But for random cool gadgets like that bad breath detector you guys had, I feel there is so much out there, that I have to leave it the guys who are naturally inclined that way. We edit each other and say "dude, is this cool or not?" all the time, and trade posts when we know the other guy would have loved to have found it.

I have to admit, watching a MacBook Air slide into a manila envelope was quite entertaining and super sexy. Then when AirMail released the manila MacBook Air sleeve, I was even more impressed that a company was able to quickly turn a fantasy into everyday reality — Geesh, if only my entrepreneurial skills had kicked in faster! Well here's the next installment of the manila envelope trend — the Mac Bag. This bag from Studio Leung is still in its concept phase right now, but it is made of waxed cotton (and is therefore water resistant), and comes with a felt lining for added protection. As I said, just a little bit more practical than an actual manila envelope!

Well Ann, Matt , Al and Meredith from The Today Show got an up close and personal view of the new Air on yesterday's show. Ann asked what you can't do with it, Al and Matt went down its specs list and Meredith decided to lick it. Her exact words were, "I've heard that if you lick it, you own it." Hey, whatever works, right?! The shocking part about the whole thing is the fact that she openly admitted that she doesn't even own a laptop! Leave it to some lucky peeps in Tokyo to get their hands on an official MacBook Air — box and all. By the looks of it Steve Jobs wasn't lying about the Air's eco-friendly packaging, which was reduced by 56 percent — it kinda reminds me of a super-sized iPhone box, totally sleek and black. And yes, Engadget has revealed that these fortunate geeks couldn't help but slide it into a couple envelopes for dramatic effect. Geesh, and I thought that the new MacBook Pro unboxing was dramatic!

Changing the MacBook Air Battery Is Easier Than Expected

As much as it made sense that Apple omitted a few standard features on the MacBook Air to maintain its ultra-thin design, I couldn't get over the fact that the battery is basically sealed inside the device, which I thought would make it very difficult to replace. But according to the The Apple Insider, with a size 0 Phillips head screwdriver, the battery can quickly be replaced in less than three minutes.
Once you unscrew the battery from the chassis, just unplug the battery from the circuit board and give it a tug. Contrary to popular belief, it isn't stuck to the board. Do it yourself or take it to a technician, but just keep in mind that this process could void its warranty. Apple will soon be announcing a MacBook Air out-of-warranty battery replacement program, which is said to cost around $129 and take five business days. Tough call — do the quick and cheap battery replacement and void the warranty, or pay the extra, wait five days and keep the warranty intact?!

Of course, that thing's so teeny and my purses are so big, I'd have no trouble at all finding a spot for it, but I'd want my little Mac baby to be well protected. The MacBook Air: Three Sacrificed Features

I think Steve Jobs definitely hit the nail on the head with the MacBook Air—It's super tiny, it comes with a bright LED display, has exceptional battery life, a built-in iSight camera with microphone, and includes a large multi-touch trackpad. But as innovative and chic as this notebook is, I can't deny the fact that there are three main features that I wish it didn't omit. Scroll down to see what they are. Features like an optical drive that allows you to copy tunes from CDs to iTunes or watch DVDs. As well as an ethernet port since you're basically outta luck if you can't find a wireless network to connect to (good luck finding WiFi in older hotels). And last but not least, the MacBook Air only comes with one USB port. . . Let's just say you're going to need a USB hub for sure! Nonetheless, it's understandable that there's going to be some compromise for having a laptop as sleek and light as the MacBook Air.
