Did you know that digital TV viewers in the UK spend an average of three and a half hours a week channel surfing? The results didn't indicate whether the participants (aged 16-20) had DVRs, which I'm assuming would alter the total amount of time. Ever since my TiVo entered my life, I no longer have to worry about bouncing around from channel to channel, hoping to find something that peaks my interest — because I always have hours of taped shows that I know I'll love. What about you? Do you still spend time channel surfing? Source

If you're in the market for a new HDTV and are ready to plunk down your money for that new set — hold off! The prices of HDTVs are expected to plummet in the coming months, which can mean huge savings for you.

There are a number of factors that may lead to LCD and Plasma TV prices hitting the deck this shopping season, one of which is the economy. We're afraid to spend our money! So retailers have to make it irresistible for hesitant shoppers to hand over that credit card, while they clear out their inventory to make room for the newer models to come.

Another reason for the deep discounts? The digital signal switch. If you haven't gotten on board with digital, and are still using an analog signal TV (with the 'ole bunny ear antenna), you have until February 17, 2009 to get your hands on a converter box, or to upgrade your television. What a better way to usher in this new era of digital viewing than with a LCD TV, deeply discounted to sell?

Not only is it Father's Day, it's also another national holiday — National No More TV Day! Say what?! Yes, today we need to celebrate our dearest daddies and step away from the boob tube as well. Considering we're supposed to cut television out of our lives for a day — but what about the Tonys? — I can't help but wonder if I could survive without TV in my life, you know like cut it out cold turkey?! I've gone through phases where I haven't watched TV (OK, so I didn't have cable), but I always made sure to bring myself up to speed as soon as I was near a TV and a cable connection. I guess there's always the option of watching TV online, but I guess that doesn't count, especially on today's national holiday. What are your thoughts? Could you survive without television? And if not for a lifetime, what about for a day? Source

Would You Want a Motorized TV Under Your Bed?

I don't know why I'm so fascinated with luxury gadgets. It's probably because they are usually intricate, flashy, and I can never afford them. I was hoping to see more luxury electronics at CES this year, but I did manage to come across this bad boy—The K2 Mounts under the bed lift. As you'll see in the video below, it's a custom lift that raises your flatscreen out from under the bed to an ideal viewing height. And it can be all yours for around $17,000. It seems like a rather large contraption to me (and somewhat dangerous), I'd rather settle for a bed that comes with the flatscreen built in! What do you think?

High-Tech Luxury Bathroom: Love or Leave?

Would you love to have a bathroom that is decked out with all the latest gadgets? Imagine having a bathtub like this one I spotted on Bornrich. The Splash is a 17-inch wide screen, water-resistant LCD TV that comes with a 176-degrees horizontal and vertical viewing angle and an iPod docking station. As much as I'd love to say that it'd be great to watch television while taking a bath, I prefer complete serenity— zero technology and noise. Now the iPod dock is a different story, because rocking out while getting ready is always fun. What do you think? Is it over-the-top to have technology in the bathroom?

I can't decide what I like more—the television or the name of it! Sony has just come out with this 32" Bravia series LCD flat panel HDTV in "cosmo pink." This TV is not only chic on the outside but on the inside as well! The Bravia S Series TV comes with a light sensor that will monitor ambient light levels in the room and automatically adjust your screen brightness for the full effect. It also comes with a handy free function so you can temporarily freeze your show in a separate screen while the programming continues to play. The results are in and it ain't pretty. According to the OECD's Communications Outlook 2007, households across the United States watch an average of eight hours and eleven minutes of TV per day. That number is three hours above the second highest couch potato country, Turkey, which is said to spend five hours in front of the tube per day. In 15 out of 18 countries studied, TV watching has increased from 1997 to 2005 and has surprisingly decreased in Spain, New Zealand and South Korea. I probably TiVo about four shows a day that are roughly an hour each - that's four hours of TV a day, give or take a little late night impromptu watching action - but because I fast forward through the commercials or often realize I don't care to see the shows I've TiVoed, I'm not watching anywhere near that number. Me a couch potato? I don't think so. How much time do you think you spend in front of the TV, computer and other media sources each day?

Up To The Minute TV Info With Eye-lert

Not everyone has a TiVo or DVR and even those of us who do still miss, forget to tape or even program a show at the wrong time. Case in point: Victoria Beckham: Coming to America! Okay, so I saw part one, but I missed the "never seen shots" episode. What's a girl to do?

Due out this fall is a new service from CBS called "Eye-lert," which will attempt to remedy this problem. Featured on Switched Eye-lert will send you real-time programming alerts via text message or email to let you know what's on when. It will even let you know if a show has been moved time slots or if it's running late.

Even though I check my Google calendar periodically throughout the day, I love getting alerts on my phone to remind me of meetings and events. So getting up to the minute info about my TV shows will be just as useful!

Remember when the VCR came out, then the DVD player and then the VCR/DVD combo player? Now there's the latest combo- the microwave and the flat panel LCD TV duo.

Designed for Holland Electric by Marcel Wanders, this 15" TV/DVD player with a 1200 watt microwave oven is a space-saving, crafty invention. I like the idea of watching TV instead of staring at water boil, but how are you supposed to know when your food is cooked? Unless you know exactly how long to time something for, you are setting yourself up for a few cooking disasters!
