Comic-Con Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Remote Control

Comic-Con Must Have: The (Seriously!) Functional Sonic Screwdriver

A Time Lord never leaves the TARDIS without a sonic screwdriver in hand, and now Comic-Con attendees can get the first glimpse of a fully functional sonic screwdriver, harnessing the power of alien technology to the joy of human sci-fi fans on Earth. ThinkGeek, the go-to online shop for all things geek, partnered with The Wand Company to make a replica of the Eleventh Doctor's Mark VII Sonic Screwdriver that is actually a gesture-based universal remote.

The Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote Control uses infrared technology to work with TVs, iPod docks, and most home entertainment systems. Since it's clearly not your typical button-based remote, the Sonic Screwdriver recognizes 39 commands and works via a series of 13 wizard-like gestures including rotating, flicking, and tapping.

The remote isn't on sale until Aug. 31, but lucky fans at Comic-Con can get a first look at the Time Lord take on technology at BBC America booth #3629.
