Invention That Lets You Reach Through a Screen
The New Invention That Changes Video Chatting Forever
In about four minutes, your mind may explode. A new video from MIT Media Lab’s Tangible Media Group shows off a new dynamic display called inFORM that lets you virtually reach through a computer or tablet screen during a video conference and interact with things without having to be physically present. Holy. Crap.
The display is attached to a table with little square keys that are controlled by a remote user. The keys move up and down, depending on how that user is moving in space. It essentially creates a shape-shifting 3D platform that users can physically control. In the video, for instance, a guy uses inFORM to play with a ball that's attached to a remote iPad.
Let it sink in because, even though it sounds like witchcraft or a scene straight out of The Matrix, this is 100 percent real life.
