Cell Phones in 1928: Is Time Travel Really Possible?
By now you've probably seen the video of filmmaker George Clark dissecting a piece of footage from a Charlie Chaplain movie, in which it looks like a woman is talking on a cell phone . . . in 1928. Although there are many possible explanations which range from amplifying her hearing to adjusting her hat, curious folks are left wondering: is time travel really possible?
According to my favorite time travel flick of all, Back to the Future, of course! But in the real world, time travel could move from fictional films to real life with the right tools. Check out a clip from the Back to the Future 25th Anniversary trilogy extra, "The Physics of Time Travel," as Physicist Dr. Michio Kaku breaks down the truth behind moving forward and backward in time when you read more.

Post a CommentI read that article yesterday. I'm neither a believer or a skeptic (frankly it freaks me out to think of these things) but they did bring up a good point; so who is their carrier? how did they get service when there were no services back then?
I liked when he said that is can not be a radio to her ear because it is 1928-so it can not be a radio because it is 1928, but it could be a mobile phone in 1928.
Don't you think that if someone was smart enough to invent TIME TRAVEL, they'd be smart enough to figure out how to communicate 'back to the future' once they got there?
And also, isn't it supposed that Charlie Chaplain secretly worked for the CIA? They are up to all sorts of shifty things, aren't they?
And one more thing... a commenter on the youtube video had a good point. This (http://www.hearingaidmuseum.com/gallery/Carbon/WesternElectric/info/west...) thing is the same size, shape and colour as the thing the "woman" is carrying.
I think the only weirdness going on here that the guy actually got right is that the woman is actually a man dressed in drag.
OK folks the time for truth is here, it was me! Yes I know some of you will be sceptical but time travel has been around for ages. In the photo I had to wear a disguise and so mugged an old woman for her clothes hence the female look. The phone in question is an LG GD880 and it stayed powered up for the duration of my visit; I still have Charlies Autograph to prove I was there, oh! and the clothes I robbed; wear them now and again when I venture back!
It is extremely doubtful that this film is from the year stated and it looks convincingly fake.
There is no evidence of old camera style shutter movement on the film and there are no defects such as scratches or anything of that nature which "would be there" due to its age.
The quality of this film is far to good for the year stated and the motion of the people is far to flowing and smooth.
If this film "is" from the time stated, its been professionally remastered and by the painful look on the persons face, the person is likely to be holding a black handkerchief to their face because they have rampant tooth ache, or perhaps the person has just had a tooth pulled and is in considerable pain.
Anesthetics were relatively crude in those days and probably wouldn't have taken away much pain at all, if anything this person looks as though they would rather be anywhere else than where they are at the time this film was shot.
The person also looks like a man by the style of shoe that they're wearing and their clothes have a male look to them too.
Has anyone else actually SEEN that movie? Ugh.
