A Week With the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

The tablet market is crowded, and with seemingly no slowdown to the quick pace that manufacturers churn out new gadgets, it's a confusing space to know where you're getting the most for your money. Hitting store shelves April 22, Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is an almost perfect solution for a mix of Internet browsing, video watching, reading, and home entertainment control hub. For $250, the tablet comes with 8GB storage, dual-core processor, microSD card slot, and 3MP camera.

Compared to the high-quality cameras we've become used to on smartphones and the Apple iPad, the poor camera of this tablet might be a major point of contention for some. Still, after the week we spent with Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, there's a lot to love at a very attractive price point. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Gets a Closeup at CES

Looking for a super-sleek tablet in 2012?

Looking for a super-sleek tablet in 2012? Get a load of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 that debuted today at CES. On the inside, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is coming with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, dual cameras (a 3MP rear-facing and 2MP forward-facing), and 16GB of on-board storage and supports up to a 32GB microSD card, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, but it's the outside that really gets the attention here. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 boasts a beautiful Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display and an incredibly slim profile — it's less than half an inch thick and weighs roughly 12 ounces. That's pretty impressive. Bonus — it comes with infrared technology so you can use it as a universal remote. How thoughtful.

If the price is right, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 could be the next hot tablet on the market. I know I'm interested!

T-Mobile Offers Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus on Payment Plan

Putting a spin on the traditional subsidies of wireless devices, T-Mobile is offering up its latest tiny tablet on a payment plan.

Putting a spin on the traditional subsidies of wireless devices, T-Mobile is offering up its latest tiny tablet on a payment plan. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is expected to hit shelves on Nov. 16 (just in time to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet) for $250 down (with a $50 mail-in rebate) and $10 monthly payments spread out over the next 20 months, making the $450 price tag more bearable. Of course, the data plan will set you back an additional $30 a month to start, bringing the total cost per month to 40 bones.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus

The 7-inch Galaxy Tab Plus comes with some improvements over the last iteration, including a jump in processing power (now 1.2 GHz dual-core), 4G capabilities, Android 3.2, a 3MP rear camera and 2MP forward-facing cam, along with an infrared sensor to use the galaxy tab as a universal remote. There's also 16GB of on-board storage with a microSD expansion slot so you can store your videos, pics, and more.

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus adds another entry to the small tablets trend we're seeing, and I'm betting there will be plenty more to come. Are you into smaller tablets, or do you prefer your tablets to be on the larger, 10-inch side?

Martha Stewart's Magazines Heading to Android

We've known for a while that Martha Stewart is a two tablet-toting tech geek, but we've often wondered which one she prefers.

We've known for a while that Martha Stewart is a two tablet-toting tech geek, but we've often wondered which one she prefers. I think we've finally gotten our answer. In a new interview with Refinery 29, Martha waxes poetic about the screen resolution on her new Galaxy Tab (which she uses primarily to watch movies) and says that it "might be a little more comfortable to hold than the iPad."

Though she uses her iPad to flip through her digital magazines, the crafting love will soon spread to other platforms. Martha and her team are working on bringing the Martha Stewart Magazine app to the Android Marketplace soon. Once that happens, will Martha ever use the iPad again?

The Motorola Xoom is finally available to the masses tomorrow — although it looks like it'll have a short time in the spotlight before the iPad 2 competes for attention. In any case, the Xoom is not the only new Android-powered 10.1-inch tablet in town. Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled a larger version of its popular seven-inch Galaxy Tab, but the details of the upcoming release date as well as pricing have yet to be announced. So if you're not an Apple fan, should you shell out $800 for a 3G/4G Xoom now or wait for the forthcoming Galaxy Tab? Take this quiz to see if you know the major differences between the two tablets!

Steve Jobs Disses Tablet Competitors, But How Do They Stack Up?

As you may have heard, Apple announced the iPad 2 during a press event in San Francisco yesterday.

As you may have heard, Apple announced the iPad 2 during a press event in San Francisco yesterday. Reviews so far have been glowing, but Steve Jobs did not hold back on discussing why the company's competitors aren't succeeding in this space. Jobs declared that manufacturers are still designing tablets to work like PCs, when tablets aren't used like regular computers; Apple understands this, which is why they are winning the tablet war. I know many of you are Apple fans, and plenty of you are not, but I've found it very interesting over the years to see the two camps collide, and it makes me wonder — how do we go about deciding which products to buy?

I predominately use Apple products (we are a Mac office here at Sugar HQ), but I've had my share of Microsoft and RIM products as well, and I may as well tell you that I liked the new iPad. But I'm sure you're wondering how it stacks up against its competitors. Check out the spec breakdown of four popular tablets after the jump.

Three's a Charm: Samsung Galaxy Tab, Gabardine Case, and a Rini Bag

I'll admit it — I was surprised at how nice the seven-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab was to hold in my hands.

I'll admit it — I was surprised at how nice the seven-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab was to hold in my hands. I didn't think I'd like a smaller screen, but truth is, it's just the right size to pack along in your bag. If you were one of the millions who were wooed by the sleek body, crisp white backplate, and ultra compact form factor, then you're going to want to appropriately accessorize. Taking a cue from Pantone's Fall color report, I've found a bag and sleeve to fit your Tab to a T.

If you're a bag lady like me, you'll love the roomy Rini Bag ($270) that's made with Italian hand-stained leather and comes with wooden handles, metal feet (to keep it clean), and pockets on the inside for your keys and phone. Keep your Galaxy Tab protected while you tote with this Etsy Brown Wool Gabardine Case ($21) that's got a soft layer of Japanese quilted cotton on the inside lining, while the outside stays nice and fashionable with brown wool. You can go from Winter to Fall in one fell swoop! Check out more images of the products in the slideshow.
