The tablet market is crowded, and with seemingly no slowdown to the quick pace that manufacturers churn out new gadgets, it's a confusing space to know where you're getting the most for your money. Hitting store shelves April 22, Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is an almost perfect solution for a mix of Internet browsing, video watching, reading, and home entertainment control hub. For $250, the tablet comes with 8GB storage, dual-core processor, microSD card slot, and 3MP camera.

Compared to the high-quality cameras we've become used to on smartphones and the Apple iPad, the poor camera of this tablet might be a major point of contention for some. Still, after the week we spent with Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, there's a lot to love at a very attractive price point. The 7-inch screen and slim 345-gram weight (just less than a pound) makes the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 an ideal on-the-go device. Similar in size to a Kindle, it fits in a bag while leaving plenty of room for other necessities. In fact, it makes an ideal bedtime ereader, when curling up to a heavy book or a larger tablet won't do.

Setting up the Galaxy Tab to function as our office remote really was as easy as Samsung claims. Follow the prompts on the display as the Peel remote app guides you through syncing the TV and cable or satellite network to the tablet. Once everything's in order, customize viewing preferences by basic demographics or your reality TV addiction.

Shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the software interface is highly customizable with widgets and any app you can get your hands on in the Google Play market. The tablet comes with a free one-year membership to Dropbox with 50GB and Google apps integration. Some of the preloaded software may seem like too much — a Kindle app and Samsung Readers Hub — but it wasn't enough to distract from our general use of the device.
