Toyota's Corolla LE Eco Is Fuel-Conscious (and Full of Surprises)

In ancient Rome, the term "corolla" referred to a ceremonial crown symbolizing victory. It seems that the 2014 Toyota Corolla line is finally living up to its namesake with a new model that gives environmentally mindful drivers a reason to celebrate. The Corolla LE Eco, a surprisingly fast, fuel-efficient car that boasts 42 miles per gallon on the highway, is the newest addition to the Corolla line, which received a major style revamp and some power-boosting engine tweaking for 2014.

Sexy may not be what comes to mind when one thinks of sedans, but that's not why car buyers are interested in the reliable Corolla. Safety, reliability, fuel economy, and affordability are why consumers turn to sedans — but the Corolla LE Eco goes above and beyond that with a new powerful engine under the traditionally even-tempered "Eco" name.

Millenials are Toyota's target audience, but is a snazzy new exterior and high-tech packages enough to convince Gen Y that the 11th-generation Corolla has shed its mild-mannered reputation in favor of a new seductive, modern facade? We took the 2014 Corolla LE Eco for a test drive on the streets of Seattle, WA, and broke down our thoughts on the compact car feature-by-feature in the gallery.
