Android KitKat is Google's Latest Sweet-Tooth Operating System

Five years after the no-nickname debut of Android 1.0 in 2008, Google confirmed its 11th version of the mobile operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat will be coming to the just-announced Nexus 5, as well as Nexus 4, 7, and 10, along with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition throughout the coming weeks.

While earlier this year, Android fans were sure the new OS would be called Key Lime Pie, as John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships, told the BBC, "Very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie." The chocolate candy bar, rather, was the late-night fuel for coding sessions and a dessert users around the world would recognize.

None of the 10 other Android iterations has ever gotten the brand-name treatment, using generic names for the desserts each version was named after. No Android Dunkin' Donuts or Jelly Belly. According to the BBC, KitKat's parent company, Nestlé, jumped at the chance to be included in the latest Google mobile platform and will ship over 50 million chocolate bars featuring the Android robot on the label to countries including the US, UK, Japan, and India.
