The battery-powered devices use efficient, green technology and built-in sensors that can "sense" the longer grass that needs to be cut. All you need to do is place it on the ground, turn it on, and relax while it trims the yard.

The Clocky Robot Alarm ($50 to $60) is ideal for deep sleepers. Originally the project of engineering student Gauri Nanda, the clock beeps loudly in a random pattern. Here's the kicker, though: it can jump up to three feet, then move along wood or carpet so that you're forced to catch it and turn it off. (Tip: if you aren't into the jump-and-hunt routine, you can disable the wheels, and the clock will remain still.)

With the Roomba Vacuum-Cleaning Robot (from $300), you can skip the standard push-and-pull routine. At the touch of a button, the robots move to collect dirt and debris — even under furniture and along the edges of the wall. There are a variety of models, some with state-of-the-art touch pads, but each type includes a Full Bin Indicator that lets you know when it needs to be emptied.

The Aquabot Pool Cleaners (from $270) come in a variety of designs to clean both in-ground and above-ground pools. Not only do they reduce chemical, water, and energy costs, but they also feature an adjustable guidance system to suit any pool shape. Total clean time for most pools? Less than an hour.

The Litter Robot II ($340) — which comes in black, gray, or white — features a rake-free system that cleans the litter box. Designed to work with a wide range of litters, the robot won't jam or need to be cleaned afterward. Not included? The likely high-fives from Fluffy.
