Most Retweeted Tweet Ever Oscars 2014
The Oscars Broke the Internet Last Night — Twice
At approximately 7 p.m. on March 2, Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres took the selfie to end all selfies.

Ellen managed to squeeze Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto, Kevin Spacey, and the Nyong'o siblings into one very wide-angled photo, courtesy of the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S5. The host's quest? To beat out President Barack Obama's "Four more years" reelection tweet for the most retweets of all time. Ellen's celeb-powered tweet garnered over 2.7 million retweets, while the president's only amassed 781,000.
Needless to say, the selfie was an epic success. So successful, in fact, that Twitter was down for more than 20 minutes after 10 p.m. EST. The engineers at Twitter had already braced themselves for what was coming — and quickly sprung into action.
When Ellen made her record-breaking intentions clear, Twitter engineer on call Vincent Chu took pause.

An hour later, the Twitter engineering team, who took shots every time Ellen mentioned Twitter, was still hard at work.

Eventually, the microblogging site was back in action, publishing over 14.7 million Oscars-related tweets. Many of the night's most popular tweets were by actually by Ellen herself. The awards ceremony was sponsored by Samsung, which is why the host was toting around a Galaxy S5 during the show. But after careful inspection . . . the secret is out! Ellen was using an iPhone backstage and a Galaxy S5 onstage.
Instagram, on the other hand, experienced some server struggles Monday morning. The photo-sharing app was either down or afflicted by long loading times for about an hour, between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. PST. Many suspect Justin Bieber's Instagram of Selena Gomez at the Vanity Fair Oscars party as the culprit behind the social network's outage. Justin wrote "Most elegant princess in the world," fueling rumors that the two have rekindled their romance.
The Internet, it seems, just couldn't keep up with the celebrity star wattage at the Oscars. The ABC live stream cut out all night long, even though the network restricted online access to TV cable subscribers.

When will the Internet break next? We're thinking when Benedict Cumberbatch hits the small screen for Sherlock season four. Thoughts?
