Zoe Saldana, who plays the adopted daughter of supervillain Thanos, said of her character, "She turns green when she blushes, when she's mad or turned on."

Gamora is the last remaining being of her birth planet, Zen-Whoberi, which was destroyed by the Universal Church of Truth. She was raised to become a skilled warrior with superhuman strength by villain Thanos. Her target? Magus, an evil artificial human created by scientists. In adulthood, Gamora struggles with loyalty to the man who raised her and acknowledging the danger Thanos posed to the universe.

Chris Pratt trained extensively to play the part of Peter Quill, a human/alien hybrid and NASA astronaut who eventually takes on the identity of Star-Lord, policeman of the galaxy.

Of Peter, Chris said, "There's a petulance to him. He's not held accountable as an adult and free in space to do whatever he wants to do. He's definitely slept with some superweird aliens."

"My favorite moment was when I donned my first wardrobe. My walk changed, and I had a little extra bob in my step," Chris said.

Professional wrestler Dave Bautista was chosen to portray Drax the Destroyer, a powerful alien being once known as the human Arthur Douglas. Arthur's spirit is captured by Titan god Kronos, and the human is turned into a superstrong creature who is programmed to kill Thanos (the supervillain who raised Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana). Drax can conjure blasts of cosmic energy and wield super strength and agility, as well as sense the presence of Thanos.

"He's full of rage and honor. He's very literal," said Dave.

Lee Pace (who played Ned in the cult favorite Pushing Daisies) will take on the role of Ronan the Accuser, who was born into an aristocratic family on the planet Hala, then exiled from his own empire. He is initially a villainous figure with superhuman strength, cybernetic armor, and the ability to project energy, but later, he fights to free the people of the Kree Empire.

"This character [created by Stan Lee] has been around since 1967, so there's a lot of backstory there. I've gotten to research Ronan, and I'm really excited to make a villain that's complicated. There's a core of him that you can understand," said Lee.

Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, is one of the four founders of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Centaurian of the Plysa Forest, Centauri IV is a skilled archer and game hunter of the first planet colony outside of the sun's solar system. After an alien tribe called Badoon attacked Centauri IV, the Guardians of the Galaxy was formed to take back the planet and fight the Badoon.

"This character has a lot of tough love against some of the other cast members," Michael said. He also revealed that "for other movies I've done, I hardly have ever had to do makeup." Of course, this will be an exception!

Our beloved Karen Gillan (yep, of Doctor Who fame) went bald to embody Nebula, a Luphomoid known for her combat and strategic battle kills. Her wrist-bound blasters can project extreme heat and energy, and she also possesses an appearance-disguising device. Nebula was originally part of a troop of space mercenaries and pirates.

Karen said that the most interesting thing about the character is her "strange and complicated relationship with Gamora," whom Nebula follows as one of The Graces.

Djimon Hounsou will become Korath the Pursuer, a scientist who created cybernetic warriors — and turned the experiment on himself. The ally of Ronan the Accuser was also once a member of the Kree empire.

Djimon is excited to become a part of the Marvel universe so that his 4-year-old son doesn't think that there are only light-skinned superheroes, he said. "I want to provide a diverse outlook for superheroes, specifically for him."

Benicio Del Toro of Snatch and Traffic plays The Collector, also known as Taneleer Tivan, one of the oldest living beings of the universe. The Collector foresees a great power destroying all life in the universe, so he sets on a quest to collect the finest living specimens of every inhabited world to keep them safe.

Comedian/actor John C. Reilly will play Rhomann Dey, a leader of Nova Corps of planet Xander, an intergalactic space militia who has the ability to wield the Nova Force, unlimited energy generated via a living computer.
